The crowds gather at iftar and continue right up till dawn, when the sehri meal is eaten. While iftar marks the end of the meal at nightfall, sehri is the early morning meal before the dawn of another fasting day.

Ramzan food feasting

The fast is traditionally broken with a small meal of dates, fruits and pakodas. And sehri usually constitutes specialties like khajla (round bread), pheni (spiral crusty cakes) and sheermaal (sweet buns, usually served with butter and jam), providing the required energy without wreaking havoc on the digestive system. Adam lay ybounden,
Bounden in a bond;
Four thousand winter
Thought he not too long.

And all was for an apple,
An apple that he took.
As clerkes finden,
Written in their book.

Ne had the apple taken been,
The apple taken been,
Ne had never our ladie,
Abeen heav’ne queen.

Blessed be the time
That apple taken was;
Therefore we moun singen:
Deo gracias! Deo gracias! Deo gracias!

Away In A Manger:

Away In A Manger Christmas song

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the night sky look down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.

Deck The Halls:

Deck the halls song

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Tis the season to be jolly
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol
Fa la la la la, la la la la!

See the blazing yule before us
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Strike the harp and join the chorus
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Follow me in merry measure
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
While I tell of Yuletide treasure
Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Fast away the old year passes
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Sing we joyous all together!
Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Heedless of the wind and weather
Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Do You Hear What I Hear?:

do you hear what i hear

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
‘Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite.’

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
‘Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the the sea,
With a voice as big as the the sea.’

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
‘Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold,
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold.’

Said the king to the people everywhere,
‘Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light.’

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing:

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconcil’d
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

Christ by highest heav’n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris’n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear:

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold!
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From heaven’s all gracious King!
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats,
O’er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing.
And ever o’er its Babel sounds,
The blessed angels sing.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife,
The world hath suffered long;
Beneath the angel-strain have rolled,
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not,
The love song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing.

For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophet bards foretold,
When, with the ever-circling years,
Shall come the Age of Gold;
When peace shall over all the earth,
Its ancient splendors fling,
And all the world give back the song,
Which now the angels sing

Jingle bells

jingle-bells

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight!

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side,
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot.

A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;

Joy to the World

Joy to the world! The Lord is come:
let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare him room
and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Saviour reigns:
let men their songs employ
while fields and floods rocks hills and plains
repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow
nor thorns infest the ground:
he comes to make his blessings flow
far as the curse is found.

He rules the earth with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness
and wonders of his love

O Holy Night

O holy night song Mery christmas 2012

O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

The Christmas Song

The Christmas song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa’s on his way
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies
On his sleigh
And every mother’s
Child is gonna spy to see if
Reindeer really know how to fly

And so, I’m offering this
Simple phrase to kids from
One to ninety-two
Altho’ it’s been said many times
Many ways
“Merry Christmas to you”

He has made Indra, Agni, Varun, Chandrama, Surya, Yam etc. Lokpal (Guardian angel) of his family. They get converted to sun and start burning everyone. Or, drop rain by becoming clouds. So, kindly save us from that monster.”

The fight of Lord Vishnu and Mur was carried on to many years, but, Mur could not be defeated. At last, Lord Vishnu went to a deep cave in Badriyakashram for resting.Mur also reached there to kill Lord Vishnu. That time, a beautiful girl appeared in the cave and started fighting with Mur. She mad him unconscious by pushing him. And, she had cut his head. When Lord Vishnu woke up, he saw that someone had killed the monster. Dhanurmasa begins December 16, 2012 (Sunday)

Dhanurmasa Puja

Dhanurmas starts usually around 14–16 December and extends up to the mid of January (Hindu calendars moanths Margashirsha-Pausha). This period ends with the Makar Sankranti – the end of dakshinayana mostly occurs during the Pausha month of the Hindu Lunar calendar. This period of month is considered as highly auspicious for Vishnu devotees.

Dhanurmasa is also called as Shoonya Masa because it is considered as inauspicious to do any good things other than Godly functions. This month is allotted to Gods and for us it is a blank – meaning Shoonya.

Other Names

Dhanurmas or Dhanur Masa is also known by the names Chapa Mas, Kodanda Mas, Karmuka Mas etc. Chapa, Kodanda, Karmuka etc., in Sanskrit are synonyms of Dhanus; meaning a bow. Dhanurmasa is also called as Shoonya Masa because it is considered as inauspicious to do any good things other than Godly & Holy functions.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi December 23, 2012 (Sunday)

Vaikuntha Ekadashi

A major fairs and festival of South India, Vaikuntha Ekadashi is observed with all solemnity in the temples of Lord Vishnu. It was on this day that during the Sagara Mathana, ‘Amrit’ emerged out of the ocean and that was distributed to Gods. The Hindus consider this day very auspicious and it is believed that those who die on this day are freed from the rounds of birth and death; they directly reach Vaikunta, the abode of Lord Vishnu. It is for this reason that the Great King Bheeshma waited long on his bed of arrows, to leave his last breath. Hence it is also called Bheeshma Ekadasi)

Christmas December 25, 2012 (Tuesday)

Christmas 2012

Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary as a fulfillment of the Old Testament’s Messianic prophecy. The Bible contains two accounts which describe the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. Depending on one’s perspective, these accounts either differ from each other or tell two versions of the same story. These biblical accounts are found in the Gospel of Matthew, namely Matthew 1:18, and the Gospel of Luke, specifically Luke 1:26 and 2:40. According to these accounts, Jesus was born to Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph, in the city of Bethlehem. Christmas Day is celebrated as a major festival and public holiday in countries around the world, including many whose populations are mostly non-Christian.

Dattatreya Jayanthi December 27, 2012 (Thursday)

Dattatreya is said to be an Avatar, an incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Therefore, one of his names is Trimurti Avatar. In ancient times there was a very rigorously disciplined rishi called Atri. He was believed to be the mental son of Brahmadev, because he had been born from the brilliance of Brahma’s eyes. His wife was Anusuya, who was a very loyal, humble and faithful wife.

Dattatraya Jayanti 2012

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva became three guests and went to Anusaya hut, and said her to serve them food without clothes. By the power of her mind she turned the three guests into small babies and with great love she began to rock them and feed them.Anasuya named the three babies, Som, Datta, and Durvas. When they grew up Som went to the moon, and Durvas went to the jungle to do penance. Before leaving both of them kept their particle of being with Datta. Thus Datta became the combined avatar of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Shopping for Bhaiya dooj, Festive collection by Shivali Misra Seth:

Shopping in Delhi

The collection draws inspiration from a very famous quote describing the ageless war between vanity and beauty. You could be a modern day princess, Snow White, Cinderella or just an average quiet girl–you would face this war at some point in life. Our collection simply displays the charm and envy hidden in all of us. The first phase of the collection emphasizes on exaggerated glamour and self-love. The fabric, a mix of georgette, raw silk, mul, silk velvet, silk, crepe and net, shapes the concept into the silhouettes that are beautifully emblazoned with traditional hand embroideries and modern application techniques.

Bhaiya dooj quotes:

Sky is blue, feel this hue,

My love is for you Bhaiya…always true.

Loads of good wishes for Bhai Dooj..!!

Holi is colorful,

Deewali is lightful and brightful,

Bhai Dooj has made our relationship POWERFUL.

Happy Bhaiya Dooj: Special wishes for all Brothers and sisters on this Auspicious day….
